Classroom Task

In this blog, I'm writing about my classroom task, which was given by our professor, Archita Ma'am. This task is about comparing the movie ' Life of Pie' and the story 'The Heathen'. Here are a total of five questions:

1)What similarities and differences did you find between the story and the movie?

⭕Similarities :

➡️ Both the movie and the story are based on the sea, which has been a hurricane. And both of them are struggling with hurricanes. You can understanding this point through the pictures which gives you the following:
⭕ Difference :

➡️ Both of them have a difference in religion because in the story, the character of Otto is a heathen, but in the movie, the protagonist is Pi, who is a religious man, and he believes in religion. He also knows the many religions like Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and others.

➡️ One other difference between the end of the story and the movie is that, in the movie, Richard Parker leaves Pi, but in the Heathen, Otto stays with Charley for many years and helps Charley. You can better understanding this point through the pictures which gives you the following:

➡️ And in the story, Otto makes Charley a better man, but in the movie, Richard Parker makes Pi a dangerous man. There is a difference between the two; one makes a better man, and in the movie, Tiger transforms a better man into a dangerous man.

2) How far does the character of Otto and Richard Parker is influential in character development of protagonist.

In the life of Pi, Richard Parker is a tiger, and Pi is a common man. Pi doesn't survive hurricanes, but he survived because of his fear of tigers and because he always stayed alert. Pi also learned to fish for the tiger's feed and his own feed. Because there is no vegetable food. Also, he becomes a dangerous man like a tiger and fights with a tiger. And at the end, Pi also said that he was alive because of Richard Parker.

In The Heathens, Charley becomes a better man because of Otto. Otto helps Charley marry, and he helps bring up the children on the plantation. And at the end of the story, Charley also said, ''Who saved me and made me a man, who saved me in the end.''

3) Do you feel aesthetic delight while watching the movie? If yes, exactly when did it happen? If no, can you explain why?

Yes, I feel aesthetic delight while watching this movie. So this movie was very interesting and wonderful. But I feel aesthetic delight; it happens in the middle of the movie when Pi and Tiger survive a storm. There was a tiger hiding from the storm under a trap, but the spiritual side of Pi recognized the necessity of witnessing the awesomeness of the storm. And that time Pi said to the tiger, ''Richard Parker, come out! You have to see this! It's beautiful!.'' Pi enjoyed the storm.
You can see the picture of this part, where Pi raises both hands and prays to God. And thanks to God for his life.

Pi in the storm fulfilled his relationship with God, and he didn't fear the storm. Because he realized that God created all things, including us. Which means everything already belongs to him. At the end of Strom, he says to God, '' God, thank you for giving me my life. I'm ready now. '' It has given me aesthetic delight.

4) What is the role of religion in both the movie and the story?

In the life of Pi, Pi believes in all religions, and he tried to learn all religions one by one at the beginning of the movie. First, he was taught Hinduism by his mother. And then he also believes in other religions, like Christianity and Islam. And Pi became a religious man; his mother believed in religion, but his father doesn't believe in God.

In The Heathen, Otto doesn't believe in a particular god. He does what he likes. He hates Christians because all Christians hate him. And he is the only one who isn't Christian. He was heathen. And he doesn't believe in a particular religion.

5) Was there any particular scene or moment in the movie that you will cherish lifetime?

The scene when Pi and Richard Parker are together on a ship. And the first time Pi touched a tiger, he turned his hand on the tiger. And the tiger also cried there. You can see this picture and feel this moment;  It's like a beautiful and memorable scene to me. I like animals, and I like to care for animals. So I will never forget that scene in my lifetime.

Thanks for reading. 🙏
